Carol Schram: Mikey DiPietro's jr career ends, Brendan Gaunce cut loose, Worlds updates After he was injured in Game 2 of the OHL Final, Michael DiPietro was forced to watch from the sidelines as his Ottawa 67's dropped four straight games to the Guelph Storm and missed out on a chance to advance to the Memorial Cup. Also, the Canucks won't qualify Brendan Gaunce, and the battle for top spot in the 2019 NHL draft intensifies at the World Championship.

IF the Referee calls the flagrant trip from behind on Clayton Keller, Larkin's goal never happens. I, for the life of me can't understand how that infraction is not called.

lol. Just thinking Gaunce needs to get a HB profile. At least in here he'll always be significant.

Thanks for the update Carol. I can see the dog days of summer are setting in, the lead up to the draft should provide some renewed excitement for sure.

From the last blog I saw that DCT posted he is not worried about Hughes or Pettersson's slight stature for the playoffs, well I can only hope he is right.

lol true

I personally can't wait until he gets a shift with another NHL team...scores off his shinpad then the 'I told you so's' will be out in full force.

Why do people say this every time Canada doesn't show well in these tournaments?

I think these tournament formats (and results) are a poor indicator of national ability, both on the ice and in management.

That's like telling a lost kid looking for help to GFY.

I think that post was meant for another thread.

True. But I think it would be different if countries had time to prepare and not just accept the castoffs from the NHL season/playoffs.

I am going over the last couple of years to make my evaluation not this summers tournaments.

Canada use to be the best nation at hockey and now may have slipped to 4-6 . The best players at the draft in the last few years are coming from other countries.

In past drafts Canada would usually have at least 5 of the top 10 in each draft , now we are around 3 .

Other countries are pumping more money into their Development while we are still operating the same way we did 15 years ago.

I agree what you're saying but I see it more in terms of NA hockey than Canada vs everyone else. USA hockey is a direct result of Canadian influence. Euro hockey is a different beast.

8 out of the top 10 scorers this season were from NA (3 in top 5). Only 3 players in the top 15 were from outside NA. I'm ok with that.
